Cradlehall pupils’ plant new roots at Drumossie Braes show home
22nd June 2026
Pupils from Cradlehall Primary School's Eco Committee have swapped the classroom for the garden, planting flowers at Springfield Properties' Drumossie Braes development in Inverness as part of a community partnership with the housebuilder.
The seven to 11-year-olds got their hands dirty planting a variety of flowers including lavender, cosmos, salvia and heuchera, chosen for their ability to attract pollinators and support local biodiversity. The pupils worked together to plant the flower displays, which have now been positioned outside the show home for visitors to enjoy.
Assistant site manager, Gary Paul, gave the pupils a private tour of the five-bedroom Kincraig show home at Drumossie Braes, walking them through the key sustainability features of Springfield homes including air source heat pumps, which are included as standard, and EV charging cabling.
The Cradlehall Eco Committee has earned the school its sixth Green Flag award through a programme of work that has transformed the school grounds into an outdoor learning space and established a greenhouse where pupils grow their own produce.
Springfield Properties is committed to supporting the communities where it builds and has pledged a £300 donation to Cradlehall Primary’s Eco Committee to support the school’s outdoor learning and food growing projects.

Dave Main, Springfield Properties Managing Director (North), said: “The Eco Committee at Cradlehall Primary has shown a real commitment to sustainability and creating opportunities for pupils to learn about the environment in a hands-on way. We’re pleased to be able to support that work and contribute to the committee’s future projects through our donation.
“Supporting the communities where we build is an important part of what we do, and it’s fantastic to see young people bringing so much enthusiasm and creativity to initiatives that benefit both their school and the wider community.”
Vivienne Goodall, head teacher at Cradlehall Primary School, said: “Thank you to Springfield Properties for working with our Eco Committee. Not only has this opportunity enabled our group to put their green fingered credentials to use out with the school environment. It has also added to our Developing the Young Workforce agenda in looking at the diversity of careers in the building sector.
“It was a lovely surprise to have a £300 donation. The Eco Committee will meet shortly to decide how the money should be spent but initial discussions are favouring some new planters or benches.”
