Nick Cooper

With a long and distinguished legal career, Nick joined the Springfield Board as a Non-Executive Director in June 2018.

Having studied Law at the University of Leeds, graduating in 1987, he went on to complete professional training at The College of Law, Chester, in 1988.

Following his qualification, Nick built an extensive career in legal and corporate leadership roles, culminating in his appointment as General Counsel of The Football Association (FA), a position he held until his retirement at the end of 2024. During his time at the FA, one particularly proud moment was a one-to-one meeting with the England Manager – a highlight in a career that combined professional excellence with a lifelong passion for sport.

Before joining Springfield, Nick also served as Group General Counsel, Company Secretary and Executive Committee Member at Johnson Matthey, later taking on the role of Global Business Services Director between 2023 and 2024.

Beyond his professional achievements, Nick has a zest for life and adventure - completing his first half marathon at the age of 60 and qualifying as a PADI Rescue Diver. A devoted Sheffield United supporter, he has proudly watched the team play on over 80 of the 92 football league grounds.

Drawn to Springfield’s unwavering commitment to customer service, Nick was inspired by the company’s focus on doing the right thing for its customers and communities. He has always valued being part of organisations that care deeply about service, integrity, and people – values that align closely with Springfield’s own.
