Matthew Benson

Matthew graduated from Oxford University and began his career working in international capital markets in London before establishing his renowned position in development services. Matthew has been a Director at Retties since 2002 and takes great pleasure in sharing his experience to see junior colleagues succeed.
Matthew was appointed to the Springfield Board in 2011. He is Chair of the Audit Committee and sits on the Remuneration and Nomination Committees. Matthew finds Springfield’s “can do” entrepreneurial approach to giving people a home inspirational, believing strongly that housing is a core political and social right.
A proud accomplishment for Matthew was winning the Saltire Award for innovations in Housing Finance alongside Springfield. This innovation informed much of the thinking behind the National Housing Trust initiative in Scotland, unlocking the delivery of thousands of new homes.
Outside of housing, Matthew can be found building a regenerative farming enterprise: counting worms; making compost; improving wool and importing cattle embryos from the USA and Canada.
