Innes Smith
Chief Executive Officer
Innes has played a fundamental role in Springfield’s journey for nearly two decades, helping guide the company from a family-run business in Elgin to one of Scotland’s leading housebuilders. Appointed CEO in October 2021, he brings more than 30 years of experience to the business.
After graduating from Heriot-Watt University in 1991, Innes qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and began his career with KPMG. His early years gave him a strong grounding in financial and business essentials - skills he carried into senior roles with SGL Carbon, where he served as Finance Director, and later with Gael Force.
Innes joined Springfield in 2005 as Finance Director. Drawn by Springfield Chairman’s, Sandy Adam’s clear vision and the company’s genuine commitment to customers, he saw an opportunity to help shape something meaningful. Over the years, he played a central role in Springfield’s transformation and the listing on AIM in 2017 - an achievement he counts among the proudest moments of his career.
Innes believes housebuilding is about improving people’s lives. The ability to create places where families can thrive and communities can grow is what motivates him, and what continues to inspire Springfield’s direction today.
Beyond Springfield, Innes contributes to the wider industry as a Board member of Homes for Scotland, a role he has held since 2016. Outside of work, Innes is an avid golfer, committed to fitness, and enjoys spending time with his family.
